Other names: Gemperli Butcher Shop
The history of Gemperli Butchery can be traced back almost 140 years. At that time, the butcher's shop at St.Gallen's Multer Alley was a thriving business community.
In November 1949, the Gemperli brothers were able to take over this shop ocation from the owner. With the Multer Alley butchery, the enthusiastically enthusiastic pair of brothers soon began talking about themselves: As the first company in Eastern Switzerland, the butcher company offered its customers numerous products in consumer-friendly self-service packs. The production of canned food in-house and a well-developed caterer's department with three chefs completed the services of Multer Alley butchery.
In the 1950s and 1960s the Gemperli brothers already supplied numerous branches in the region. Constant growth in sales forced the company to rethink its business in the following years. As the Multer Alley shop had no room for a large reconstruction, they decided to move to the outskirts of St. Gallen, near the slaughterhouse.
In 1979, the company acquired the new building at 5 Slaughterhouse Street in St.Gallen-Winkel. The massive expansion of the services resulted in a real meat center in a short time, with rapidly growing sales figures. In 1984, the company was transformed into a stock corporation and taken over by Ernst Sutter AG.
After an extensive expansion of production facilities in 1991-1994 the extension building East and the installation of a high-modern, high-performance high-bay warehouse.
Thanks to the excellent development of Gemperli, the capacity had to be expanded again. For this reason, in the period from 2000 to 2002 the extension West was built with an increase in the social tract and an increase in the packaging industry.
Today, Gemperli presents itself as an advanced manufacturing company with a wide range of products and services in exceptional quality.
The customers can continue to look forward to a selected assortment of fresh meat, fish, meat specialties and, last but not least, the beautiful St. Gallen sausage products (including the Olma bratwurst, which is well-known far beyond the canton's borders, the brothers Gemperli provided the culinary image of the city of St. Gallen), which are still produced according to traditional recipes.
After more than 60 successful years in the service of the customers and the St. Gallen sausage art, the couple Bernadette and Emil Gemperli owe their gratitude.
Their son Daniel is now the ownership of this butcher shop since October 1994
