During the German occupation and the establishment of Lodz's Ghetto (1939/1944), the parish house at 8 Kościelna St. was a police station of the German criminal police (kripo) , called the "red house". It was a particularly grim place where the Ghetto residents were imprisoned, beaten and tortured.
