For many years, the Department of Music was located in the Hung Hing Ying Building, a two-storey Edwardian-style structure that is a declared historic monument of Hong Kong. The building was officially opened in February 1919 by Governor Sir Reginald Stubbs.
The building was the home of the Department of Music from November 1996 to January 2013, then the department moved to Run Run Shaw Tower of the Centennial Campus.
