tower, fortification, interesting place
Mount Crevelt Tower 3 was set up as 1778 to protect St. Sampson Harbour and will be completed by a small fort armed with five 24 pounder cannon in 1803.
Towers were built everything around the island in the 18th to protect the island of any foreign invasion, in particular during the napoleonic wars. They were originally among 15, but only 12 still survive. They are recognizable in their short and thickset silhouette, about 30 ft high for 20ft of circumference. All of identical design, towers are built on 3 levels, both over the ground floor having murderesses who allowed the shooting of musket to cover all the approaches.
