The bridge connects Eden Quay and Custom House Quay on the north bank of the River Liffey to George's Quay on the south.
The present Butt Bridge, named after Isaac Butt MP, was erected in 1932 to replace an iron swivel bridge that had been built in 1879. Designed by Joseph Mallagh, it was the first Liffey Bridge to be built with reinforced concrete.
