The Mother village of all surrounding villages, from which Om Traibat the biggest village rightnow emerged and Siddig Shannan.
This village is famous for generosity and hospitality of its people, it gave the world Ali Shannan, the most famous generous man in Sudan this time, he has more than 20 sons and 15 daughters.
Never found a newly borne child at his time, without being given a sheep as a gift to his parent to slay while giving a name to the child, however, that was not restricted to Wad Shannan, but also in the nearby villages.

He expired in 2006, but his sons handled the responsibility, and made their father's name as high as it was, and together with efforts of the whole family, they established a school, club and constructed a mosque.

They are (Kawahla), Saudis, and all of its people are descendent of Late Shannan.

Gasim Ali Shannan, one of Ali cute sons, is leading now most of development steps in the area, together with Al Gayly Saleh, Muhajer Yousif, Al Mahy Abdullah, Banaga Mohammed Tom, Hamad Elneel Ali, Abdurrahman Abdulhalem, Muawyah Abdelbagi and Mohammed Abdelbagi.

The majority are farmers but educated and cultured.

Hospitailty is Wad Shannan's slogan, never come with a full stomach.

  • هذه القرية الوديعة تمثل الكرم في قمته، وتمثل الشهامة والرجولة في أسمى معانيها، فأهلها كرماء وناس حارة، فقد أنجبت هذه القرية والد الجميع علي شنان طيب الله ثراه حيث كان الكرم نفسه يمشي على الأرض، رجولة وأخلاق وعطف وكرم ونزاهة وشهامة ومروءة فلذلك أكرمه الله بأن عاش أكثر من مائة عام ولم يفقد بصرا أو سمعا او يفقد حركته العادية. توفي الى رحمة مولاه في 2006م وبكته جميع القرى والمدن ونعاه الشريف زين العابدين الهندي بقصيدة تبكي حتى من لم يره. وانجبت هذه القرية العريقة الاستاذ عيسى الأمين شنان الذي توفي في يومالاثنين 13 اغسطس 2007م 30 رجب 1428هـ، مثال الأخلاق والكرم والشهامة والنبل وسرعة البديهة، فقد ربط قرى المنطقة جميعها بعلاقاته الاجتماعية الطيبة وتفانيه في عمل الخير حتى قال فيه الشريف زين العابدين الهندي كيف نرشح في هذه الدائرة واحدا وفيها عيسى شنان، رحل وترك ذكرى عطرة، ألا رحم الله الاستاذ عيسى وحتما رحم حواء ستنجب من ود شنان عليا وعيسى ومن مثلهم
