Old Paco Railway Station (Manila)

Philippines / National Capital Region / Manila / Quirino Avenue (N140 / C-2), 1
abandoned / shut down, train station, historical building

The original Paco Station is one of oldest buildings constructed by the US government during the American colonial period. Built in 1915, it has gone into disrepair and the Railways and Industrial Heritage Society of the Philippines, Inc (or RIHSPI pronounced ReeSee) has been lobbying for its preservation.

In a February 6 update of its website, RIHSPI officers announced that the Historic and Preservation Division of the National Historical Institute recommends the declaration of the Paco Railroad station as a National Historical Landmark and the installation of a National Historical Marker.

The society also received a message that PNR concurs with the recommended declaration. PNR also informed the society that the Office of the President approved the budget for the restoration of the railroad station.
