Described in book "Alexandrina's Shore" by Jim Faull.

The old Lake Plains schoolhouse is a focal point of the community. It was built by the banks of the Bremer on half an acre of land
given by lohn Cheriton in 1861. The school was opened in 1864 and received a grant from the Council of Education.

The original trustees for the school building were Thomas Adamson, Edward Steer, Henry Saltmarsh, James Baird, Hermann
Dacnke, Edward Prouten and Andrew Moar. In 1874 the trustees conveyed their interest to the District Council of Bremer and in
1876 the council surrendered responsibility for the school to the Education Department. The old school journals, which are still in
existence, list that Mary S. Baird was teaching at the school in 1879. Other well remembered teachers were Evelyn Trezise,
Margaret Matheson, Mary McBain, Margaret Ritchie, Agnes Meldrum, Dulcie Davis, Beatrice Baumgartel, Frederick Delsar and
Dorothy Ellis. In the 1890s attendance was about tuenty three pupils but in the 1920s and 1930s it declined to about thirteen and
frequently was less than ten.

The big flood of 1941 went right through the school and after it subsided the pupils with the help of their parents spent many
hours removing deposits of silt several inches thick on the floor.
