Wapack National Wildlife Refuge, established in 1972 through a donation from Laurence and Lorna Marshall, was New Hampshire's first refuge.
It covers 1,672 acres (677 hectares). North Pack Monodnock Mountain, a 2,278-ft (694m) peak, is located within the boundaries of the refuge. The terrain is diverse, including various conifer forests and woodlands, scrub habitat, and formerly cultivated land.
