Enfield is a 60 hectare site located 18km on a dedicated freight rail line from Port Botany and was purchased by Sydney Ports in 2000 from the original facilities owners, FreightCorp.

This former marshalling yard is currently zoned as commercial rail use, NSW Ports has a proposal to develop the site as an Intermodal Logistics Centre (ILC). This proposal has been developed inline with a strategy to manage the growth of containers through Port Botany, which includes a target of moving 40 per cent of containers by rail by 2011.

The ILC at Enfield, will form part of a network of intermodal terminal facilities in Sydney and service around a quarter of the total intermodal demand.

The proposed ILC site is within close proximity of its catchment markets, located on and accessible from arterial roads, connected by a dedicated freight line to Port Botany and large enough to deliver an integrated freight solution comprising intermodal terminal capacity for 300,000 TEUs* per annum, empty container storage and warehousing.

* TEU a twenty foot equivalent container unit (a 20 foot container is one TEU).
