France in motion
"The Running Man". The reproduction of a photo taken in the year 1888 is the eye-catcher featured on the façade of the French Pavilion. This first visualisation of single motion sequences by the photographer Etienne Jules Marey, at a time "when pictures were learning to move", was to lead to the invention of the cinema. A rhythmic light show on the exterior accentuates this impression of motion.
The theme "transport, mobility, movement" is visualised by the team "Cap Productions" using technology developed by the film industry. The glass façades are designed with a leafy surface which - like the branched wooden supports on the inside - give the impression of a forest. "Décathlon", the French department store for sport articles, is sponsoring the building, conceived by the French architect Françoise-Hélène Jourda, and intends to make use of it afterwards.
