This cemetery, which is just outside the wood after which it is named, was used from November 1917 to September 1918, visible from the entrance to the cemetery, is Buttes New British cemetery, which stands just inside the wood. There was once a German cemetery here, which contained 347 graves, this cemetery was later closed and the graves moved elsewhere.
