Suwanna Chedi (Pathumwadi Chedi) TH สุวรรณเจีดย์ (เจีดย์ปทุมวดี)

A legend tells that King Athitayarat and his royal consort, Queen Patumwadi had built Wat Phra That Hariphunchai around 1607 B.E. (1064 AD). More detail was found in the Mullasasana script that they both demanded the tip of the principal chedi be decorated with gold and named it Suwanna Chedi ( Golden Chedi). This golden chedi was made of bricks with a triple-tier laterite base. On the base stands the body with 5 stepped arched bays holding stuccowork of Hariphunchai style Buddha images in the standing position dated around the 17th-18th Centuries B.E. (12th-13th Centuries AD), the peak of Haripunchai's golden age of trade, religion and arts.
