The municipality of Hamme had in 1824 an initial petition for a bridge over the Durme be allowed to build. The wooden swing bridge was carried out in 1827.
Since 1904, the bridge was used by the steam tram (Hamme - Temse), the line was electrified after World War II, since 1959, replaced by buses.
The surface was then replaced by concrete. Since 1982 damage, and become unusable. Restored by the Ministry of the Flemish Community, between 2000 and 2002 and formally reopened on January 18, 2003
