The Roses Theatre was built on the site of the Sabrina Cinema which closed in the mid 1960s, and was opened on the 31st October 1975 by Princess Anne.

Eric Morecambe gave his last ever performance here, suffering a fatal heart attack seconds after coming off-stage at the end of a one-man show on 27 May 1984, dying a few hours later at 4am on 28 May at Cheltenham General Hospital, aged 58. The upstairs bar is now named the "Morecambe Room" in his memory.

Sadly, the theatre is one of the ugliest buildings in Tewkesbury, although it is perhaps not quite as bad as the "Bishop's Walk" shopping area, or the Borough Council offices, which just about shade it for even more appalling hideousness.
