Widening I-405 here required demolition of the highway tunnel under the BNSF rail line. Demolition was completed in Spring 2009. For years, businesses in Bellevue (and a few points north?) had been served by freight trains that originated in Seattle and went to Bellevue via Renton. Those businesses will are now to be served by trains running south from Snohomish, probably originating in Everett.
The plan to sever the rail line doomed the Spirit of Washington dinner train, which used this line. The final Renton dinner train run was on July 31, 2007. Its operation moved to Tacoma, about 30 miles southwest of here and went out of business a few months later.
