Located north of the junction of the M73 and M8/A8 in Lanarkshire. Situated 2 miles (3 km) west of Coatbridge town centre, Bargeddie grew, along with neighbouring Cuilhill and Drumpark, in association with the mining of coal. In the 1930s a government funded housing scheme was built to the west of Langmuir to accommodate people living in sub-standard miner's rows. In the 1950's another housing development took place near the Coatbrdige Road to accomodate an influx of inhabitants from Glasgow and the surrounding areas.

Former Scottish football player and Arsenal manager, George Graham was born here. Football remains an important part of life in the area. Bargeddie Amateur Football Club are well known in the lanarkshire area and they play home games at the Bargeddie Pavillion. The club is managed by John Grimason and Ian McFaulds.

Bargeddie has two pubs, The Roadhouse and the Langmuir Inn (known as Tamson's to locals)

Bargeddie was not incorporated into Glasgow City along with Baillieston but became a part of Monklands District Council and latterly North Lanarkshire Council, this along with the physical separation caused by the motorways has meant that over the years it has been slowly encroached upon by Coatbridge.
