It is no doubt that Sutragarh M.N High School is one of the oldest schools in Santipur. There was a time when there were no schools in Sutragarh area. With the help of some educationalists like Bisweshar Biswas , Kalidas Biswas, Rameshar Sen , Panchugopal Indra , Gopicharan Nandi , Ramgopal Munsi , Manick Chandra Das, Kunjbihari Saha an English school was set up in the house of Ashutosh Indra at “ Sarabhuja Bazzar” on the day of 13 th November in 1872. The Headmaster and the secretary of this school were Rameshar Sen and Gopicharan Nandi. With the earnest effort by the school authorities they succeeded in getting 400 /- Rs and land from Maharaja of Nadia . In 1880 , the school building was completed. First Government help came in 1892. Then the school observer Jadunath Ganguly remarked in his report –“ The old M.E Schhol is no longer in existence .It has been raised to the status of a High School from 27 th August.Therefore , the schhol has been raised to the status of a high school on 27 th August in 1900.After that the school was christened to the Sutragarh Maharaja of Nadia High School.

The contributions from the inhabitants of Sutragarh were immense and unforgettable for the advancement of this school. Venerable K.C. Das had built a large Hall ( K.C. Das Hall) and a library in the school compound. N.R.I Dr. Rabindranath Banga donated as much as 20 lakh for building the “ Sudharani Banga Bhavan” . N.C.C conducted its first step in 1952. In 1957 , the schhol was granted co-educationship in class IX and X. In 1965 it was granted to start class XI. Later some headmasters of this school took initiative for advancement of this school – some notable were- Sitanath Bhavani , Bisweshar Das , Gaynananda Mukherjee and Bimalacharan Acharya.
