Big Wednesday.
Early morning 9 March 2005 saw a west swell breaking 17 to 20 feet at 20-second intervals, and the perfect tubes grew to more than 30 feet. First out were Don Curry and Alistair Craft, who were soon wrapped in 45 to 50 foot barrels. Jughead Allport arrived and, while fading deep into a 55 foot barrel, got snagged in his foot straps, spun out and was hit by his board, breaking his leg in three places. Gnarliest ride of the day may have been Tyler Smith, on a wave that peaked at 60 feet or more.
Big Tuesday
Two winter storm systems in the North Pacific joined up and generated 40+ foot wind waves which became a major west swell hitting this part of the coast 4 December 2007. Surf breaking 30 to 50 feet in the morning grew to 60 - 70+ faces by early afternoon.
