Bosten Lake is a freshwater lake. It is the largest lake in Xinjiang and one of the largest inland freshwater lakes in China. It cover 980 sq kms at 1080 m above sea level. It means 'stand up' lake in Chinese. It is called Bagrax in Mongolia and Bagraash Koll in Uygur languages. The lake is overgrown with reeds and lotus and form the habitat of numerous water birds.
