Rzeszów Główny is the most important junction station in Podkarpacie - the E30 double-track main line runs through it and single-track lines from the direction of Jasło and Ocice end. The station consists of two main track groups - the proper passenger station with 7 main tracks. There are 3 platforms with 5 edges. To the north of the main tracks, there are stabling tracks, along with the locomotive depot of Przewozy Regionalne. Behind the locomotive depot there is also a closed fan engine shed. The station also has a number of side tracks.

The second part is the former station, and now the Rzeszów Zachodni group of tracks. There are also 7 main tracks here, and sidings on both sides, including one leading to PKP PLK. In the past, there were many more sidings - now they are cut off from the track system. There is also a guarded railway crossing. This is also where the electrification of line 71 ends.

Both groups of tracks are connected by three tracks on which train rides take place - two belong to the E30 line, while one - to the line towards Ocic. The unfavorable location of both track groups - short distance and perpendicular position - makes it necessary to limit the speed to 40-60 km/h. Both from Rzeszów Główny and Zachodniopomorskie there is a connection towards Jasło - carried out by a single-track line and a slip road to Rzeszów Staroniwa, which eliminates the need to change the head of the train. The whole is controlled by the "Rz" control room, equipped with IZH-111 type relay devices. The former signal box at the Rzeszów Zachodni station currently serves as a crossing guard.
