Juniper Gardens was once a neglected area – but it’s now an award-winning public square in the heart of Midland.

Visit this green urban square to discover what made it the winner of the 2011 Planning Institute of Australia national award for 'Great Place' and the UDIA award for urban renewal. Surrounding Juniper Gardens, you’ll find shops, offices and Midland’s first inner-city apartments. You can also explore beautiful heritage buildings which contain a café and barista school, micro-brewery, restaurant and community arts centre.

Tree Forms

You can’t miss the iconic 5m high Tree Forms art piece in the centre of Juniper Gardens. The piece is a collaboration between local sculptor Ron Gomboc and the artist (and Juniper Gardens’ namesake) Robert Juniper, celebrating Midland’s creativity and exciting future. “I went to look at the space, and the first thing that inspired me was the shadow of the gum leaves on the ground,” said Juniper. “So I tried to create something that would cast shadows, shadows that would move through the day as the sun moves.”
