Luxury rental apartment tower named after its address: 10000 Santa Monica Blvd

$300-million, 40-story residential skyscraper.

As a very attractive underutilized address/location in Century City, it was the subject of a massive bidding war in the height of the early 2000s market bubble: in 2006 a 52-round auction pushed the price of the 2.4-acre lot up to a heady $110.2 million. Winner SunCal Cos. of Irvine announced plans for an ultra-deluxe condominium tower designed by renowned French architect Jean Nouvel but the economic downturn erased demand for condos and the company lost control of the property after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2008. Crescent Heights bought the land in late 2010 for $59 million and planned the current glass-box style building.
