Hønefoss is a town in Buskerud county, Norway, administratively part of, and also centre of, the municipality Ringerike.
Hønefoss was separated from Norderhov as a town, and municipality of its own, in 1852. It celebrated its 150th year of township in 2002.
Hønefoss is home to several factories and other industry, with the Norske Skog Follum paper mill traditionally having had a significant impact on the town. The paper mill, opened in 1873, is one of the largest producers of newsprint in Europe.
Hønefoss has 13,400 inhabitants, and is located north of lake Tyrifjorden, where the river Begna forms Hønefossen waterfall, giving the town its name. Many factories are located here, most notabily the Follum paper mill owned by Norske Skog.
