Founded in 1840 by John Simons, the dry goods merchant moved to 20 Cote De La Fabrique in 1870. During the 1950s the operation was transformed into a department store and the range of goods sold was enlarged. Later expansion took place in suburban Quebec City, Montreal and Sherbrooke. In 2005 the building at 24 Cote De La Fabrique was acquired and restoration work was undertaken. Formerly the home of Curriveau and the Empire Theatre, the building has been completely demolished except for the facade.
