On May 4th, 1982 this plane, piloted by Corvette Captain Ernesto Proni Leston, detected the Royal Navy Destroyer HMS Sheffield (D80) operating off the Southeast coast of the Falkland Islands and led a pair of Super Etendards armed with Exocets to her position. The Sheffield was hit and sank six days later while under tow with the loss of 22 crew.
