In 2013, China's State Council approved the expansion of Zhengzhou's airport in alignment with its first zone for an Airport-based Economy (ZAEZ), the construction of a new terminal and runway began in earnest. Currently under construction, the new terminal will consist of 470,000m2 of terminal building, an additional 77 aircraft parking stands and six de-icing stations. A second runway will run parallel to the north of the current runway. Operations testing is currently due to be scheduled by December, 2015.
