Former Site of Biak Beach Hotel at Marau

Indonesia / Papua / Biak /

This hotel was once the leading hotel in Biak in 1990s. The hotel truly benefited from the Biak airport activity, especially since Garuda flight from Jakarta to Los Angeles would make stop over in Biak. (It was a tiring flight with DC-10 where from Jakarta the plane would make stopover at Bali, Biak, Honolulu, before arriving at Los Angeles).
However, the arrival of longer ranged MD-11ER made Biak stopover redundant. And when Garuda ceased the Los Angeles route in 1996, this hotel saw declining occupancy rate. And the 1997-1998 Economic Crisis (which was accompanied by riots) sealed the fate of this once popular hotel, which closes its door in 1998.
The hotel building was demolished around 2010 or 2012.
