In celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the Honourable Steven Point, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia unveiled the bronze statue of Sir James Douglas that now stands on a granite outcrop and looks towards the main entrance of Government House.
The statue was commissioned by the Government House Foundation and sculpted by Victoria-based sculptor Armando Barbon. The Lieutenant Governor and Janet Renouf, President of the Friends, planted two Amber Jubilee Ninebark – a gift from the Province of Manitoba. A ceremonial one-gun salute was fired by the 78th Fraser Highlanders.
