The ShinMaywa Industries Konan Plant is the primary construction and initial flight testing facility for the seaplane models produced by the company for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) and Indian Navy. The facility also serves in the development and production of commercial aircraft components, and is presently a parts supplier for the Being 787, 777-X and Airbus A380 programs.

The current model in production at the facility is the ShinMaywa US-2, a large Short Take Off/Landing (STOL) amphibious aircraft designed for primarily for search and rescue missions, but also can be configured for long range sea patrol and aerial fire fighting missions as required. Previous ShinMaywa models built at the facility and presently in operation with the JMSDF are regularly overhauled and upgraded at the facility, which has a history of seaplane production dating back to 1942 when it was built by the Kawanishi Aircraft Company (itself the predecessor to ShinMeywa) for the production of their line of successful military seaplanes, most notably the H6K and H8K, for the Imperial Japanese Navy.
