archaeological site, Roman Empire, archaeology museum, ancient ruins

The excavated portion of the ancient Roman town of Sentinum (Italian, Sentino), south of modern Sassoferrato in Italy. The ancient town was the site of a battle in which the Romans defeated the Samnites and the Gauls in 295 BC, but it appears to have been abandoned after the destruction wrought by Alaric's Visigoths in 409.
