Chungju Goguryeobi Monument Exhibition Hall is built in the general area where the Goguryeobi Monument was found. This monument was discovered by the Academic Invtestigation Team of Danguk University and Yeoseong Culture Study Society in 1979.
This Goguryeobi Monument was erected by King Munja to celebrate the success of King Jangsu’s southern expansion. King Jangsu (413-491) is the son of King Gwanggaeto the Great who is the most well known Goguryeo King due to his expansions of the kingdom’s territory. According to what few Chinese ideographs were deciphered, the inscriptions seem to be valuable ones denoting the relations between Goguryeo, Silla, and Baekje - the Three Kingdoms.
