Mohatta Palace was built by Ahmed Hussein Agha on the request of the business tycoon Shivratan Chandratan Mohatta, towards the end of 1920.
When Pakistan came into being, it was initially used as the Foreign Office for a while and when the capital was shifted from Karachi to Islamabad, the Mohatta Palace became the residence of Fatima Jinnah, late sister of Quad-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan.
Then Shirin Jinnah, the youngest sister of Quad-e-Azam lived here till her death. After which it fell a victim of neglect and decay.
In the mid 90's the government of Karachi conducted extensive restoration work on the property and it is now the Mohatta Palace Museum, housing art and exhibits from Karachi's history and regional past.
