Ross Island is the main island of a four-island cluster in the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon, in the United States. The islands, covering a total of about 400 acres, are owned mainly by Ross Island Sand and Gravel, which mined them extensively between 1926 and 2001. The other three islands are Hardtack, East, and Toe.

  • The Oregon Historical Society photo library contains a map showing the island laid out in lots for home sites. I think it was in the early 1900s. You think that the South Waterfront is bad!
  • This island is the home of two Bald Eagles. Their nest was once visible from the west side of the river, but it has collapsed and the pair has moved farther inland. They can be seen occasionally flying around the island and above downtown.
