Uncheon Reservoir (Gwangju)

Korea (South) / Kwangju / Gwangju
 lake, reservoir, picturesque area

In the early years of the Japanese Invasion, waters were irrigated from here to Sangmudae and Minlyeok-dong. In addition, it was a place to enjoy swimming and boating. In 1951, people built a dike of 401 meters high to supply water in the farmlands of Mareuk-dong. It was about to be reclaimed because of the large development for housing in Geumho and Sangmu district. However, from 1995, people blocked the dirty water and supplied clean water and finally changed it into a natural ecological park with the scale of 7402㎡.
There are trails (500 meters), sculptures, fountain, streamlet, acupressure road and shrine around the reservoir. Red lotus flowers are all around the reservoir in the summer and the little grebe and the spotbill ducks fly in.
