Liberland

Croatia / Osijek-Baranja / Zmajevac /
 country, draw only border

The free microstate Liberland ( liberland.org ) thanks its existence to the complicated Serbian-Croatian border dispute. Croatia maintains a de jure situation of ten enclaves at the other side of the Danube and ipso facto a de jure situation of five Serbian enclaves at the Croatian side of the Danube. Serbia sets the state border between the two countries halfway the Danube. The Croatian enclaves are according to this opinion Serbian state territory. Following this opinion, Serbia does not claim sovereignty over the five enclaves at the Croatian side, which are thus left as terra nullius. As the Croatian border troops cannot occupy these areas, as to maintain the territorial claim on the enclaves on the other side and to maintain the fictional situation of "Serbian territory", the movement of Liberland took the opportunity to claim the independent state of Liberland.
In 2015, Vít Jedlička from the Czech Party of Free Citizens proclaimed the micronation Liberland on the largest of the land masses that were left unclaimed by both Croatia and Serbia.
