Honister Mine, at the top of Honister Pass, has recently been reopened for commercial use. The mine produces slate as well as offering tourist mine tours and the popular "via ferrata" climbing experience up the old mine track on Fleetwith Pike.

  • A large lakeland slate mine. It is worked on about 23 levels, which are set out diagonal to each other. There are currently three tours in the mine. The Honister tour takes visitors around the honister workings. visitors enter at adit number 14 and return via adit number 13 lower down. The mine is basically one huge chamber, which spreads up these levls, in fact it is more like a huge slightly inclined flat, which is occasionally supported by the odd piller.
