Baghan Rot (Armenian: Բաղան Ռոտ) or Vovtibagha (Armenian: Ովտիբաղա) was the administrative center of Rot-I-Bagha (Armenian: Ռոտ-Ի-Բաղա) gavar (district) of Paytakaran (Armenian: Փայտակարան) ashkhar (province) of the Kingdom of Greater Armenia. The city was located on the bank of the eponymous river that take its source from the Caspian Mountains. Not far from the another ancient city of Paytakaran (capital of eponymous province of Greater Armenia), it flows into the Caspian (formerly Vrkakats) Sea. Compared to neighboring Vardanakert and Paytakaran districts, Armenians did not make up the majority of the population in Rot-i-Bagha, but half of Baghan Rot's population were Armenians, unlike the villages of the district where Persian-speaking Casps made up the vast majority of the population. The city consisted of Mijnaberd (in Armenian for: Citadel) and Shahastan (in Armenian for: Outer city). The citadel was a rectangular shape with eight towers, four at corners and four at middles of the side walls. Outer city ( Armenian: Շահաստան [Shahastan] ) spreaded mostly at west from the citadel. Name Vovtibagha in Armenian means "Garden at the Planes", Baghan Rot is of Persian origin.
