Second World War 1939-1945, place with historical importance, fortification, artillery battery
Location of Point Du Hoc artillery guns. Called "The Citadel" by German soldiers stationed in the area. Shortly after June 6, 1944 Maisy Battery was eliminated by Rangers. Engineers buried the entire battery including bunkers, trenches and artillery pieces. Excavation is under way and despite map info, many trenches, bunkers and gun sites as well as the main radar for the area have been uncovered. It is available for touring.
