Mittlandsskogen is deemed to be northern Europe's largest contiguous deciduous forest below the mountain range. The forest occurs as a mosaic of swamps, damp and dry meadows, limestone pavement, as well as arable land. The forest covers most of the interior of central Öland. Very rich fauna and flora with hundreds of red-listed species.
