  • I came here by Russian-built helicopter on 4th November 1992, to view the abandoned oilfield and burnt-out crude-oil refinery. The end of the railway line (a branch off the Trans-Siberian) was simply the two rails twisted into a raised knot (as a buffer). I accompanied Neil Salsich III (owner of NESCOR, Austin, Texas) and Joe Marshall (of APS Boffin, Dallas). I was VP of APS Boffin and acted as petroleum engineering/reservoir engineering consultant. My later report (to present a deliberately over-optimistic model of a possible oil-production scenario of the Tsagaan Els Field) encouraged and brought about the subsequent drilling of a development well funded by the World Bank, and eventually the death of Neil when his helicopter crashed in the Gobi. (Don't know when or where this happened). Since he never paid me for my work I suppose this was some form of divine retribution. Without my input he would never have ventured into the Block 19 production sharing contract.
