Leon Schlesinger, as an independent producer and studio, ran Warner Brothers cartoon unit from this location from 1933-1944. His chief animator was the great Fritz Freleng. Tex Avery, Chuck Jones, and Bob Clampett were also directors for Schlesinger. During this period Porky Pig was introduced, the studios first cartoon star. During this period many of the most popular Looney Tunes characters were introduced: Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Tweety. By 1942 Schlesinger's Warner cartoons surpassed Disney in production and popularity. In 1944 Schlesinger sold his company to Warner Brother, which continued as Warner Brothers Cartoon, Inc.
