Bāghūz Fawqānī (Bāghūz ash Shamālī, Bāghūz Shimālī, Barhouz, Bârhoûz Chémâli, Bârhouz Chimâli), upper al-Baghuz village.
Alternative name: ash-Shajilah. Shajilah is an old name that was used by people from Baghuz at-Tahtani and Huwayjat Sahin, when they were going to Baghuz Fawqani.

Mainly inhabited by Ali al-Hassun branch of al-Hassun tribe and Dulayj (Dalij) tribe of the 'Uqaydat tribal confederacy. Besides them, tribes of the Jubur tribal confederacy and some other tribes are present.
During the course of the Syrian Civil War, Baghuz came under the control of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. It was recaptured in on 22 January 2019 by the Syrian Democratic Forces.
