The Rajbari was built in the shape of a castle with 999 doors which has given it the name Hetampur HajarDuari. (hajar is one thousand in Bengali, duari means doored). It is near Dubrajpur in Birbhum District. The palace, built in 1905, could be termed as an epitome of grandeur with massive Corinthian pillars and other impressive elements of Neo-Classical architecture. This once magnificent structure has largely collapsed due to lack of proper maintenance as the family lost fortune after abolition of Zamindari (vassalage) following India's independence. Thus the house, or rather the skeleton of it stands as a mere silhouette of the erstwhile grandeur of these powerful landlords.
