Cut-off meander of the River Maas (Stokkem)

This part of the River Maas/Meuse was cut off from the main stem of the river situated eastwards, creating free-standing sections. This type of body of water is called an "oxbow lake", due to its distinctive curved shape resembling the bow pin of an oxbow.
