Quite close to the busy railroad yard in Toijala, which is part of the city of Akaa, is a distinctive Locomotive Museum which exhibits old diesel and steam locomotives as well as work trains.

The Locomotive Museum’s speciality is old diesel locomotives. Two steam locomotives as well as one fireless steam locomotive are also on exhibition. Included in the museum’s old diesel locomotive equipment collection are several world class rarities. One is Pedershaab, reportedly the world’s smallest broad gauge locomotive, which was manufactured in Denmark but altered in Finland.
The steam locomotives and the large and small diesel locomotives that are exhibited by the Locomotive Museum also show a cross section of the history of the manufacturing of Finnish locomotives.

You can take a virtual tour of the Locomotive Museum. It is located at www.veturimuseo.fi/veturimuseo/virtualtour/virtualtour....

The Locomotive Museum is run jointly by the city of Akaa and the voluntary association Museoveturiseura ry. It is open daily in June, July and August from 10 am to 4 pm and in May by request.

The Locomotive Museum is located across the tracks from Toijala’s train station and it is easy to get to both by train (by way of a pedestrian underpass) and by car.
