Originally built in 1877 and located in Chatham, the light was moved to Eastham in 1923 to replace three wooden lights known as The Three Sisters of Nauset.

Following automation in 1955 the light was threatened as the beach had eroded to within only 50 feet of the light by the 1990's. Originally the US Coast Guard recommended that the light be decommissioned, but public outcry resulted in the light being moved over 300 feet to the west to save it.

Today it serves as the logo for Cape Cod Potato Chips and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

  • The light tower for Nauset actually came from Chatham Coast Guard station, where two towers stood side-by-side. The remaining tower still stands at the CG station in Chatham, although the lantern room has been removed.
