Somenos Marsh Wildlife Preserve

Canada / British Columbia / Duncan / Trans-Canada Highway at Beverly Street
 park, wetland

A vital component of the migratory pathway of many bird species. An extensive elevated walkway on the west side of the preserve leads deep into the marsh area with access to viewing areas with seating. Signage describes vegetation, local and migratory birds. Parking adjacent to Trans-Canada Highway accessed when travelling just to the north of Duncan townsite. Wheelchair accessible. Some picnic tables.
An elevated flood berm with a wide walking path on the top runs along the south side of the Preserve, with views into the Preserve. At present (February 2016) this berm is being extended along the southwest portion of the Preserve, beside the highway, to meet up with the parking area.

Comments

  • The boardwalk has been repaired and is now in very good shape - it has been raised and is now above winter flood levels. There is also a viewing platform at the end of Drinkwater Road which provides a good view of the lake.
  • Ah, good to hear about the repairs. I'll have to take my GPS logger out there and map them.
