Dusky sound

New Zealand / Southland / Manapouri / West New Zealand
 fiordo, Luogo interessante

At 40 kilometres long and eight across at its widest point, Dusky Sound is one of the largest and most complex fiords in Fiordland. Dusky Sound was discovered and named by Captain Cook in 1773 who originally called it Dusky Bay because of its sombre aspect. For those who really want to really leave civilisation, Dusky Sound is also incredibly remote with no direct road access.

A breeding site for Fiordland Penguins, Dusky Sound is an Important Bird Area, with a wealth of birdlife to be found here. This remote, untouched region is also home to a wide range of sea life.
