At 224 meters, it is the tallest man-made structure in Brazil. The first part, with the panoramic platform at 75 meters, was inaugurated in 1965. The topmost tip of the tower was finished in 1967. It is used for TV, FM radio and telephony (fixed and cell phone relays) communications. The area around its base is home to a local arts fair.
